Welcome to my world!

Hi, I'm Fulvio Salvi aka SAFU and I'd like to tell you my story. I was born and raised in Genoa in a family of antique furnture and painting restorers. As a kid I dreamt of dedicating myself to art, but because of my exuberant and athletic aptitude, I opted for a career in the sports world. This choice, however, didn't stifle my artistic passion which I cultivated over the years by creating glass sculptures and collecting vintage design lamps.

When I retired my childhood aspirations came back stronger than ever and in 2017 I enrolled in Paul Klee-Barabino Art School. I immediately fell in love with a technique I had never tried before... painting with acrylics. Thanks to the encouragement of my professors, I held my first personal exhibition at Palaceo Ducale in Genoa in 2019. The event met with a positive reception and it was the beginning of a series of successful exhibitions.

I work every day in my art studio located in Quinto al Mare, Genoa. I prefer to create on large canvases; I express myself through what comes most naturally to me, the use of colors and the gestural brushstrokes. I often depict distorted, humorous or disconcerting subjects, narrated by way of multiple layers of bright-colored acrylics, by textures, words and enigmatic details. Music, animals and travel are a primary source of inspiration, as well as my love of life and innate curiosity which sparks me into seeking out adventures of all kinds.

With my artwork I don't intend to formulate sentences nor declare certainties, on the contrary! Mine are just proposals, full of open and rather ambiguous stimuli, conceived to induce the observer to find his own interpretative and aesthetic response. I believe that art can and must still "work" this way.
